Salvaged Reclaimed Chicago Brick
The buildings in the Irish ghettos built with what has become known as Chicago Common Brick survived the Great Chicago Fire
Reclaimed Historic Chicago Common Brick
Chicago is a brick city. This is, mainly, because of the Great Chicago Fire of October 1871 that destroyed over 4 square miles of the city and killed hundreds. The buildings in the Irish ghettos built with what has become known as Chicago Common Brick survived the fire therefore, the building boom following the fire lead to the use of this very high organic clay brick. This brick is softer and more absorbent than modern brick, it is breathable (it can expand and contract with atmospheric and moisture changes) and it is very durable.
Chicago brick tile / Chicago brick veneer is made from antique, reclaimed Chicago original bricks, a 100% recycled material pulled from demolished buildings in Chicago. This 100% recycled product (also known as salvaged, reclaimed, recovered, historic, antique, and old brick) is a naturally weathered material from many years exposure to the elements.
Old Chicago ½ inch thin veneer tiles are the outside slice of real reclaimed old Chicago common brick. Genuine Old Chicago brick veneers vary in shape and color. Their colors range from cream to pink to light buff, and from rose to terracotta, with touches of gold and black.
The only kind of brick that has a proven track record of natural aesthetic beauty, long-term durability, and performance is genuine clay brick, brick made from clay and shale.

And to conclude here’s the technical part of Brick…
Clay brick is one of the few materials that building codes allow to be reused in a building application when it meets the ASTM standar. The NIST (National Institute for Standards and Technology) gives brick masonry a 100 year lifespan.
Because of its inherently natural elements (ingredients), the reduction in the amount of resources used to manufacture brick (minimal waste and countless recycling options) and the utilization of renewable energy in the firing process, brick is the most sustainable green building material made and the first masonry material that can attain a ‘Certificate of Environmental Claims’ from a third party source. Consequently, salvaged bricks are in high demand today.
